Cancelling Plans

I hate when people make plans then cancel at the last minute. And I know I'm probably a hypocrite in saying this, but it still bothers me. If it is at all avoidable, I try to never cancel plans. Or if I do have to, to do so at least a couple of days in advance.

And I always like to know things waaaaaaaay in advance. I've discovered, while I've been at college, that I am in the minority when it comes to how many week/days/hours/minutes in advance I think some things should be planned.

One friend in particular comes to mind in this scenario. Today, he was visiting his sister in Mechanicsburg, a town "near" where I live. By "near" I mean it's about a 45 minute drive away, which is relatively closer than the 2 and 1/2 hours it takes to get from school to my house. Before spring break, a few of my fellow club fencers and I were talking about Rita's Italian Water-Ice and how we were excited for the weather to be warm so we could go get some from the local establishment. This friend had never heard of Rita's because he just moved here from Arizona a few months ago. I told him we could get some after spring break when we came back up to school. Some how, we decided, instead, to try to get together during spring break, since I had told him before that I lived near his sister. At first, we were going to meet up on Tuesday of this week, but he ended up going to New York City with some friends that day, so instead, we decided on today at around 1. So, I ran some errands in the morning and finished with getting my hair cut at a place right across from the Rita's in my town. Around 1:15, he texted me and asked if I had left yet because he had yet to get a shower. I told him no, I was getting my hair cut. He then asked which Rita's I meant and named to streets in the large city that's about 20 minutes from where I live. I gave him my house address and told him to just meet me there. He then entered it into a mobile global positioning system (I can only assume) and realized that it would be a 45 to 50 minute drive. He then told me that it was too far of a drive because he wanted to get back to his house at school before tonight. I told him it was okay and we could just get water-ice at school when it would actually be warm.

So, that is one of many stories of somebody cancelling plans on me just minutes before. Or, I guess technically, after, since we were supposed to meet at 1. It's just one of my pet peeves. Punctuality is key with me. That's probably one of the reasons one of my friends in high school called me bossy. Oh well.

Apparently in college, it's okay to make plans just the day before. Or sometimes just as you go along. I don't like that. I like knowing what's going to happen when and where we'll be going and who all will be there. Often, friends who don't know this about me will text me or call me or whatever a few hours before they want to do something and I'll already have plans. And on the occasions I don't have "plans," that usually means I don't want to have plans; I just want to stay in my dorm and study or read a book or watch a movie. And those are real plans. They just don't involve anyone else.

So that's my spiel on that.
